If you are a local organization seeking BVK certification for your annual dinner or special meeting or if you are a private individual trying to arrange kosher certification for a party or a simcha, please review these helpful guidelines before you contact the BVK.
Guidelines for Hosting a BVK-Supervised Event
- Rabbi Okin should be informed at least six weeks in advance to discuss the kosher-related aspects of the event and to ensure supervisory coverage is available.
- A BVK-designated representative will be needed at the event to supervise the party from start to finish. This representative may be part of the catering staff with Rabbi Okin’s approval.
- All food served at the event must be produced under BVK-approved sources.
- On site catering: To ensure that everyone has the same expectations, the caterer will set up a 3-way call or meeting where Rabbi Okin will review the kosher supervision arrangements with both the caterer and the host.
- Drop-off catering: If the caterer delivers the already-prepared food to the site of the event, all food must arrive sealed with BVK kosher seals, and reheated and served under BVK supervision.
- Payment:
- For on-site catering, the caterer will be responsible for paying the BVK for kosher supervision
- For drop-off catering, the host will be responsible for paying the BVK directly for kosher supervision
- The BVK will only be considered to be supervising an event with written authorization from Rabbi Okin.
